St. Patrick’s Day is an enormous annual celebration for Irish people and non-Irish people globally, witnessing a sea of green colour in towns and cities universally. Whilst traditionally providing a religious celebration of the feast of St. Patrick, St. Patrick’s Day has become a fully inclusive party on the 17th of March every year.
The Manchester Irish Festival is a large festival every year to mark St. Patrick’s Day and Irish culture in general. According to the BBC, over 100,000 people attend the Manchester Irish Festival each year, beginning with a Roman Catholic Mass at the Irish World Heritage Centre, spoken in Gaelic of course, followed by a parade of a variety of floats, bands, and costumes, lasting up to two hours long. Manchester Irish Festival 2020
In 2020, the Manchester Irish festival will be bigger than ever, celebrating 25 years! As well as the parade itself, which takes place on Sunday 15th March this year at 12 noon at the Irish Heritage Centre, a wide range of different events are happening across Manchester, enabling you to find an event to suit every taste. There are Irish Music Quizzes at Fred’s Ale House, the Levy Market Launch at Levenshulme Market, the Young, Gifted, and Green Concert at St. Bede’s College, and a Shamrock ‘N’ Roll Night at the Union Inn. If comedy is more your cup of tea, the Tommy Marren comedy ‘3 Hail Marys’ is at the Altrincham Garrick, or if you prefer serious history, take a guided tour around Little Ireland to discover the history of this wonderful corner of Manchester which was home to so many Irish immigrants after the Industrial Revolution. There really is an event for every taste, enabling everyone to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
