You have reserved a spot at a rental photography studio. Now, you just need to find a photo studio model, and you’ll be ready to have an amazing shoot. Finding a model isn’t nearly as difficult as you likely think. Follow some tips, and you’ll be ready to head to the studio for the shoot of a lifetime.
Start with Friends and Family
If you’re new to photography, consider using your friends and family members as models. This is an excellent way to get used to working with models. You’ll be comfortable with the subject, and he or she will be comfortable with you, as well.
Here’s an added bonus. You’ll get the friends and family discount when you hire them as models. They might even work for free. You can build up your portfolio without breaking the bank if you go this route.
Look on Facebook
Facebook is full of modeling groups, and those groups contain models who are looking for work. Use the search bar to search for groups in your area. Once you find a group, join it, and then post your job offer. Don’t be surprised if you end up with a ton of responses in a short period of time. You will likely have your pick of models if you follow this tip.
CheckOut Instagram
Models and Instagram go together like photographers and tripods. Many are there to promote themselves and get more jobs. Use hashtags related to modeling and models to find people who might be interested in a shoot. Then, send the person a DM.
If you find some amateur models on Instagram, you might even get them to work in exchange for a disk full of photos. You will both help each other as you work to become professionals.
Check Model Networking Sites
You can find models who are looking for work by scouring model networking sites. ModelMayhem is the most popular of those sites. You can browse through potential options and then make your choice. You can view the models’ portfolios in the search results, making it much easier to find the right person for the job. If you’re willing to pay for top talent, this is anexcellent way to find it.
Agencies
If you’re just starting out, the word “agency” likely scares you. It’s expensive to hire a model from an agency, right?
Not always.
Smaller agencies are more affordable than large ones, and many let photographers do test shoots on the models. These free shoots allow the models to build their portfolios. Keep in mind that you’re more likely to land test shoots at agencies in big cities. The larger the city, the more likely this will work.
